“KC Chase to the Pennant” Episode 2: Transaction Analysis Part 2; Lottery Thoughts; Royals Building a Long-Term Winner?

Even though it was New Year’s Day, Cristian and I hopped on for our second episode of “KC Chase the Pennant” (or “Kev and Cristian Chase the Pennant” for the full title).

In this first episode of 2024, we talk about the following items:

  • Discuss the moves we didn’t discuss in episode 1, including the trade with Atlanta that netted Kyle Wright and Nick Anderson; the Chris Stratton signing; and the Taylor Clarke and Edward Olivares trades to Milwaukee and Pittsburgh, respectively.
  • Analyze the Royals’ Rule 5 selection of Matt Sauer (and his possible impact in the short and long term).
  • Rant a bit about the problems with the MLB Draft lottery system.
  • Talk about how this offseason is not just setting up a more competitive team for 2024, but also building a foundation for a consistent winner in 2025 and beyond (and also how John Sherman isn’t like other “small market” team owners who are being a lot more frugal this offseason).

Here is this week’s episode, which can also be found on Spotify.

Check us out every Monday at 6 p.m. to watch the live show and please subscribe on YouTube or Spotify for more awesome Royals content all year.

  1. Mr. O’B, Caught ep 2 and agree with you both that the team seems to, at last, have some real momentum At the very least there’s a definite plan shaping up.

Has the signing of Johhny DiPuglia been confirmedyet? I think this could be a real sleeper signing forthe administration.  Seems like two of every three realprospects for any MLB team is coming from LatinAmerica.

Happy New Year and keep up the great work.

    1. Thanks for listening! Agreed. Really feels like there is a clear cut plan this offseason and they’re executing it. A sign of good things to come

And yes, Anne Rogers confirmed it as well as the hiring of Fred Guerrero who worked in international scouting in the twins organization. Really feels like that’s an area JJ and Sherman want to invest in, which is great.

      Happy new year as well!
