“KC Chase to the Pennant”: Breakdown of Royals News Items from the Past Week

After two interview-focused episodes with Chandler Champlain and Javier Vaz, Cristian and I got back to just talking between the two of us.

In this almost hour-long episode, we broke down a variety of different topics. That includes our review of the Champlain and Vaz interviews; the Royals’ International Signing Class; Spring Training non-roster invitees and who could make the Opening Day 26-man roster from that group; and the Royals Stadium initiative going on the ballot on April 2nd (despite Frank White’s best efforts to block it) and our thoughts on the possibility of a “new” Kauffman Stadium in downtown Kansas City.

Here’s a look at the episode, which can be found on YouTube and Spotify.

It’s been a busy week with all the “non-snow days” this week at my work, which explains my lack of posts as we near the end of January (in addition to a calm period of time when it comes to Royals news).

However, I am hoping to publish a deeper analytical post tomorrow. In this upcoming post, I will take a dive into the PLV Batted Ball charts of a few Royals hitters from the past season (with a focus on ones whose futures in Kansas City are a bit unclear). Royals fans can learn more about Kyle Bland’s new PLV chart, especially in regards to hitters’ year-by-year changes in terms of batted ball quality and vareity in this Tweet below.

Stay tuned for the post tomorrow and in the meantime, enjoy this week’s episode of “KC Chase to the Pennant” and subscribe if you haven’t already!

  1. Mr. O’B, Really enjoyed this ep; learned a bunch. (BTW, thank youfor your correct pronunciation of Cuba; Cue-ba has longbeen an irritant for me.) Am very hopeful that the focus oninternational scouting will provide a steady pipeline. Do you have a feel for which prospects are most likelyto debut this season? Thanks for your time and keep up your most informativework.

    1. No problem! In terms of prospects debuting, Tyler Gentry, Chandler Champlain, Will Klein, and Beck Way to me are guys who are the most likely. I also could see Javier Vaz, Devin Mann, Tyler Tolbert, and maybe Cayden Wallace or Gavin Cross making their debut, depending on how injuries affect this roster.

I think we will see a lot fewer debuts than in the past couple of years, but I think that’s a good thing as it means the MLB roster is actually performing. But health is going to be a key factor to watch.
